Pubs & Clubs

Without pubs and clubs, there would be no cask ale!

In the Norwich & District branch area we’re lucky enough to have over 450 pubs and clubs, the vast majority of which serve at least one cask ale, and many, especially, but not exclusively, in the city of Norwich, serving ten or more cask ales. Many also serve great beers on keg, in bottle and in can.

Many clubs also serve cask ale, and allow CAMRA members to visit as guests, or on production of a membership card.

The Branch try to support all pubs, even those few that don’t serve cask ale, with our socials – for example we aim to visit every pub in Norwich on the First Friday Five walks at least once every two years, and every Good Beer Guide pub at least once a year.

We also monitor planning applications, and where appropriate, oppose applications to close pubs, again regardless of whether they serve cask ale – we’ve seen plenty of pubs in recent history change ownership and go from keg-only to embrace cask – a couple even to the extent of becoming Pub of the Year, so every pub is worth protection. If you believe a pub is in danger, or would just like to learn more about our policy, see the Pub Protection page on this website.

Details of all pubs and clubs in the Branch area can be found on WhatPub, and updates can be sent to pubs@norwich.camra.org.uk, or submitted via the WhatPub feedback page on each pub’s entry.

The Branch organise annual Pub of the Year, Cider Pub of the Year and Club of the Year competitions, and select up to 57 pubs each year for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide.
