The range and variety of real ales available in the city is increasing, but not yet back to 2019 levels.
The survey was carried out on Saturday July 29th, with 27 volunteers visiting 168 pubs in and around the city before filing their results at survey HQ, otherwise known as the Leopard on Bull Close Rd!
The figures show that the total number of beers on offer has risen slightly from 2022, at 464 (4.1 per real-ale-selling pub) compared with 435 (3.8), but hasn’t recovered to anywhere near 2019 level of 581 (4.7).
However, the variety of ales on sale has increased sharply, with a 17% increase over last year, from 226 to 245 different beers.
