Grain Brewery‘s Lignum Vitae, a 6.5% New World IPA, has been named Cask Beer of Norfolk 2024 by the Norfolk branches of CAMRA – congratulations to Phil Halls and his team at Alburgh!

The beer was a great favourite with the awarding Norfolk Tasting Panel members, scoring highly at tastings throughout the year and is described as having ‘orange, toffee, and banana on the nose, followed by a smooth digestive biscuit sweetness, which adds depth as a hoppy bitterness slowly grows’.

Grain Brewery was launched in 2006 by Geoff Wright and Phil Halls in a converted dairy in the Waveney Valley.

The brewery upgraded to an 18-barrel plant in 2012. Two pubs are owned by the brewery, the Plough in Norwich, and the Spread Eagle in Ipswich.

The Silver Medal went to Woild Moild, a 4.8% Strong Mild brewed by Wolf Brewery of Besthorpe. The beer is described as ‘rich and complex with malt, vine fruit, bitterness and roast vying for dominance’

The Bronze Medal went to Season of the Witch, a 4.8% Porter from Bull of the Woods of Kirby Kane near Bungay.
